Senior Educational Therapist for Chinese Language

Wang Zhaoyu is a highly qualified Chinese Educational Therapist, curriculum developer and profiler with over six years of experience supporting learners with special learning needs such as dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in acquiring Chinese language and literacy skills. She holds two Master’s degrees from Nanyang Technological University in Translation and Interpretation and International Relations, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Special Educational Needs and Additional Learning Needs from the University of South Wales (UK).

An Associate Fellow of the Register of Educational Therapists (Asia), Zhaoyu holds a diploma in Educational Therapy (Chinese support) and multiple certifications in dyslexia intervention and Chinese literacy teaching. As a former full-time Senior Educational Therapist at the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), she co-designed and implemented structured Chinese intervention programs for primary and secondary school students. She played a key role in developing the secondary school Chinese programme framework aligned with the MOE syllabus and co-created the Primary 6 Prep-to-PSLE programme.

Zhaoyu’s expertise extends beyond teaching. With a strong background and interest in research, she was an active member of the Research Committee at DAS, and contributed to research projects such as orthographic awareness and its relationship to Chinese word reading. She also trains and mentors new educational therapists, ensuring high standards of intervention and support.

Known for her patience, dedication, and approachable demeanor, Zhaoyu is committed to empowering students to overcome learning challenges while fostering a love for the Chinese language. Her expertise in Chinese culture, linguistic sensitivity, combined with deep empathy for learners with different learning needs, makes her an exceptional educational therapist and a trusted advocate for students and their families.

In addition to education, Zhaoyu is a certified English-Chinese translator and interpreter with extensive freelance experience. Her projects span industries including museums and exhibitions, book scripts, and subtitles for documentaries and TV dramas. She provided interpretation at high-profile events such as the China-Australia Film & Television Co-production Forum and the China International Agricultural Machinery Exhibition (CIAME). She had also volunteered with UNDP and TED, offering translation and proofreading services. Her ability to handle complex intra- and extra-textual factors ensures accurate, culturally sensitive, and impactful communication.
